Everyone has that one movie or few movies that just brings you joy and pure laughter. For me, it’s White Chicks and Step Brothers. It never matters how many times I watch these two movies, they both will never fail to make me laugh.
Comedy movies can do more than make everyone laugh. They can connect us through shared laughter, they can remind us it's okay to find humor in life's chaos, and they can show how humans can be ridiculous.
For this post, I’ll be exploring two of my favorite comedies and what makes them so memorable.

One comedy that came straight to mind is White Chicks. This comedy came out in 2004 and it was directed by Keenen Ivory Wayans. In my opinion this is one movie that is impossible not to laugh at because of how outrageous it is.
Review: This movie follows two undercover FBI agents who act as wealthy socialites to solve a kidnapping case. It has dramatic disguises, with hilarious situations, and has numerous entertaining scenes. White chicks is filled with quotable lines and unforgettable scenes.
Ranking: If I had to rate it, I would go with a strong 9/10. The two agents happen to be brothers and the chemistry between the Wayan brothers is perfect. The film is packed with constant laughs and to me is worth the rewatch from how amusing it is.
Analysis: Although it makes you laugh, it uses comedy to flip social norms within society as well. The word “high society” is used for rich people and in this movie they use disguises to overemphasize how some people may act around fame and privilege. The movie definitely can be over the top with the comments towards race and gender stereotypes. This movie still makes people think about image, identity, and what extremes people will go to just to fit in.
Comments: The only comment I was thinking about was if this movie were made today, I think there would be controversy.
Another comedy that popped in my head is Step Brothers. This comedy came out in 2008 and it was directed by Adam Mckay. This movie is filled with laughable scenes with crazy energy.
Review: This movie is about two middle aged men who get forced to live together from their single parents getting married. The brothers in the beginning resent each other due to the circumstances they got put in. They are very immature and never really grew up, seen from pranks and ridiculous arguments they have.
Ranking: I would rank this movie at 9/10 as well. This movie includes Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly, which they both in my opinion are hilarious. Their humor is kinda dumb in this but in a way, all the jokes are placed and timed in a good way. I don’t think all movies need to be serious and in this case this movie wasn’t. It was very interesting and comical to see two grown men arguing like teenagers.
Analysis: Under all the laughable moments, I still see a deeper meaning of how messy adulthood can still be. It really showed all of the watchers how much drama is in families and how family dynamics can change and cause problems. In the end, the characters finally grow to respect each other highlighting even immature relationships can work. This movie reminded me that humor can reflect hard times for people and humor can show how complicated adulthood is.
Comments: I have one comment, I think if the movie starred different actors, I believe it wouldn't be as funny as the chemistry between Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly.
Movies don't always have to be meaningful and leave a lasting impression, sometimes they can be over the top jokes that make a movie a movie. That is why I chose to talk about comedy movies first.
White chicks and Step Brothers reminded me how much I love comedies and how they can reveal life’s absurdities while still letting the viewers relate. The chaos that has endured in these movies, have left me with nothing but laughs that stay with me.
